Thandi Fairtrade Pinot Noir South Africa

Thandi Fairtrade Pinot Noir South Africa
Price: £8.95 Ex VAT: £7.62
Description
From a superb and well-known Fairtrade co-operative in Elgin, South Africa. A superb Pinot Noir - velvety smooth with soft, silky tannins and a lovely, long aftertaste.

The whole fruit is given a cold soak for 4 days before fermentation. After fermentation, 50% of the wine undergoes malolatic fermentation and then all the wine is transferrred to French oak barrels for a 10 month maturation.

This wine shows bright cherry fruit aromas and the silky tannins ensure a soft, mellow but lingering flavour on the palate.

Thandi means nurturing love in Xhosa. Established in 1995, Thandi were the first ever wine producers to receive Fairtrade accreditation in 2003. Three farms contribute their grapes to the project. The first called Lebanon is situated in the Elgin Valley. Lutouw is on the banks of the Olifants River and Nietbegin is on the slopes of the Helderberg mountain in Stellenbosch. Thandi receive approximately 10 eurocents per bottle from the Fairtrade premium. This is paid in cash straight back to the farmers who decide what to do with the money. There are around 300 families involved altogether. For more information see their website: http://www.thandi.com.
